ABOUT US

Petra National Trust (PNT) is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) dedicated to the preservation and protection of the World Heritage Site of Petra. Since its inception in 1989, PNT has worked to bring together people in Jordan and abroad who are committed to that same goal.

Petra National Trust (PNT) was established in 1989 as a Jordanian non-governmental organization, which aims to promote and coordinate Jordanian and international efforts to preserve the unique combination of antiquities, natural environment and human traditions in the Petra region. PNT has worked to bring together people in Jordan and abroad who are committed to that same goal.

Since its founding, HRH Prince Raad bin Zeid has presided over the organization’s activities, and garnered international support and recognition of Petra's unique cultural and natural heritage. In 2016, Her Royal Highness Princess Dana Firas, began serving as President of the Board, after a 4 year tenure as Vice President. Her duties now include overseeing PNT activities and guiding the Trust in the implementation of its mission and the fulfilment of its expanded vision in Jordan, in the region and internationally.

PNT believes strongly that members of the local communities in and surrounding Petra participate in the decision making process regarding the protection and preservation of Petra. As a result, PNT has expanded its work not only to include conservation and preservation projects but also Education, Outreach and Awareness (EOA) programs for youth in the six villages that surround the Petra Archaeological Park.
